When it came time to plan our wedding, I was all about simple. Some frills were fine, but I wanted to keep it as low-key as possible. I’ve seen a lot of weddings in this business, and I’ve been enamored by some of the incredible decorations, favors, florals, and details, but that just wasn’t for me on our wedding day. I wanted to simplify our wedding.

If that sounds like your cup o’ tea, read on for a few tips and ideas on how to keep your wedding as low-key as possible!

Simplify Your Wedding: How to Keep Your Wedding as Low-Key as Possible

Start with Your Venue

Where do you feel most like yourself? Your backyard, your parent’s home? A location that’s maybe not a “traditional” wedding venue, but will work well for guests and vendors to congregate? Choose a place that is classic you. Plus, a laid-back, low-key venue will often cut back on the amount of additional decorations you’ll need, which is always nice on the budget.

Get the Party Started before the Ceremony!

Who says you have to wait until after you say, “I do” to celebrate?! Consider setting up a beverage station to be enjoyed prior to your ceremony. You could go for cocktails, or keep it simple with tea and lemonade. It’s your wedding – do your thing. This will get your guests mingling and in a celebratory mood before you walk down the aisle.

Two Words: Comfort. Food.

I’ve already said it once in this article, but I’ll say it again: This is your wedding – do your thing! At our wedding that meant indulging in the most delicious mac n’ cheese. Simplify your wedding and keep it as low-key as possible by having your favorite foods. Maybe that isn’t the comfort food that is mac n’ cheese but don’t overthink your menu. If you have something you’ve always wanted to enjoy at your wedding, do it.
