I met Nichole during a quick session with her and her husband up in ‘da mountains and was refreshed to see how unashamedly herself she is. Nichole is a vibrant personality, pulls off that pink do magically, and from our brief time together, I found her to be an encourager. Today, I am excited to share what she has to say about her journey through real beauty with you, and hope you can learn from the wisdom in her words.
My biggest struggle has always been my short, pear-shaped stature. When I was young, I didn’t understand why I couldn’t just be proportionately even like my friends. In high school, I was overweight and it just melted off when I hit my early 20s. I didn’t do anything to make it happen, my body just changed. Then again in my late 20s, I gained about 20-25 lbs and didn’t even realize it until I saw myself in a full-length mirror one day. It was a wake-up call.
Since then, I’ve been very conscious about eating better and working out. I found an eating plan that worked for me and dropped about 20 lbs. I found that not only did I look and feel better, but I found a great sense of accomplishment in working hard and being disciplined enough to drastically change my body.
I’ve now come to accept my pear shape the way it is, while also realizing my own personal responsibility to keep it in it’s healthiest form. I don’t know if I’ll ever be 100% comfortable with certain areas of my body, but I have come to understand that no one is perfect, and these things keep us motivated and humble!
Loving your body is a journey. When we’re young, being different is negative. As we grow, we learn that our differences are our actually our unique strengths. Find a diet and exercise routine that works for you, and take care of yourself. Experiment with fashion, curate a style, and express yourself!”
BONUS: I hated my freckles when I was a kid. I couldn’t wait to cover them up with makeup. Through the encouragement of others throughout my life (including cute boys when I was a teenager), I’ve now come to love them. They are definitely a unique kind of beauty!
