I tried to narrow it down to one image that means a lot to me for this post, but how am I rightly to do that?! I’m a photographer for Pete’s sake! Not only that, but I’m a huge bleeding heart. Photos of my family, of everyday life, pull on my heartstrings hard. So, I’ll be sharing two images, not one. Be proud of me for narrowing down that far. It was hard.
What It Means to Me
If you’ve followed my work in the last year, I’m sure you’ve seen these two pictures pop up in my Instagram Feed. Maybe you’ve seen them a few too many times, but I hope I’ve done my job well enough that you haven’t.
These images are both set atop castle ruins in Monschau, Germany, and I actually didn’t take either of these (Duh, I’m in both of them). My sister did – nice work, Sister.
Ryan & Me
The look in Ryan’s eyes, the smile on my face, and the people we were with. What it means to me is a moment of joy, frivolity, and laughter. We were in Europe visiting my sister, brother-in-law and sweet nephew, and Ryan threw me over his shoulder right after I said, “Do something fun!” I didn’t want another boring posed picture, so I guess I got exactly what I asked for.
Few things bring me as much joy as being this kid’s “Auntie Wola.” (I’m an “Auntie Wola” times two now!!!) I love watching him grow and learn and am so grateful for our little friendship. He’s my pal, and I like it that way. What it means to me is the privilege of caring for him, exploring with him, and teaching him all the ways to tease his mother. He is so sweet and tender, and I love just getting to spend time with him.
